7 R&B Artists You Should be Vibing To!

7 R&B Artists You Should be Vibing To!

In the words of Timberland “It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you without a dope beat to step to.” In my case I shouldn’t have left you without some dope music to listen to. Life and more excuses, but #musicmonday is back. I was working on a Summer family playlist that I will be posting later this month, but I noticed that many of the songs chosen by me and my kids were old. Which in my opinion is dope, however I pride myself with staying in touch with current artists. Don’t get me wrong I’m the first to admit that I LOVE 90s music, hands down it's my favorite genre. However, there has been some good music put out over the past few years as well. I want to highlight a few songs and artists that deserve some light. These songs are all great for escaping away from all of our responsibilities to just vibe and listen to some good music during our me time. They will also hold us down while we cook and clean as well.

Let’s get into it:

Before we get into the the 7 artists and some of their songs I recommend, I have to say the song of the summer is “Leave the door Open,” by Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak). You would have to be deep under a rock to not have heard it. Why does it work? It’s because it bridges the gap between old and new. The lyrics are classic and could have been written in 2021 or 1990. The Lalala, oooohs, and woohs give us the old school feel, almost 80s feel along with the harmonies with a more current arrangement. Simply put its just GOOD music.

I have linked all the songs I enjoy below!

An artist I found this year that has such a beautiful voice is Marzz. Ironically her song Countless Times popped up on my Amazon music autoplay where they pick songs for you based on previous music that you have listened to and I could not have been more pleased. Her song “So Frequently” is a bop and is the first song that plays on her project entitled Love letterz. This project does not disappoint and I was able to vibe all the way through the 6 songs. I was surprised by one song that gave me Drake vibes because she seamlessly transitions to rap which I didn't expect, but unlike Drake singing is her clear strength. Check her out, she definitely has a current sound but gives us that R&B feel as well.

Vedo is just one of my ‘‘faves, I have mentioned him in past. He’s mostly known for writing songs for your faves, but I genuinely like his voice. His song “For Me,” ft. Jacquees gives me early 2000 vibes on a current beat. It’s a good summer vibe. Also make sure to check out his biggest hit “You Got It” which is still circulating social media.

I think by now everyone should be a Giveon fan. However, I stumbled across one of his older songs, “Garden Kisses,” and fell in love with it. If you don’t know Giveon look him up his voice is so unique. It’s rich, his tone is beautiful and honestly like nothing I have heard before. His voice is an instrument on it’s own. His “Heartbreak Anniversary,” album is everything. If you are sleeping in him, now is the time to wake up and get yo life.

Van Jess is a group that I also found listening to Amazon Music on autoplay. Initially I thought it was one person until I found them on YouTube and saw it was 2 women. When I went back to listen to the music, I could then hear the harmony. My favorite song by them is “Slow down,” it’s a bop. “In and out ft. Xavier Omar ( he’s one of my faves) is good too. They are a whole vibe, definitely worth checking out.

If I wasn’t already married, or if we were to renew our vows I would want our first dance to be “So much more,” by Xavier Omar. In fact me and the hubs have slow danced to this song randomly in the man cave because I love it so much. The lyrics to this song just hit me deeply, it oozes every bit of the love it describes. Omar has an original sound. His tone is so beautiful, it gives passionate R&B and I love every minute of it. His most popular song is Blind Man and it is still such a good song. He makes great soul music.

There is no list without me mentioning Tone Stith. Another one of my faves. He has a new project out, “FWM,” and the title track is it. This project is a little more upbeat than I like from him. I love him when he is deep in his love song bag. That said it’s still good music. “Like the First time,” I believe has potential to be a hit. It’s giving that modern day R&B feel. If you are unfamiliar with him his projects run deep. “Can we talk,” is my favorite album by him. That album is one you can just play, but my favorite song is “Miss California,” one of the most beautiful songs. His voice perfectly rides the beat effortlessly.

Last but not least Ms. Justine Skye. She has had some ups and down with her music career and is now currently independent. Which to me seems to be it because I’m feeling her new music. Her new project is called “Space and Time sessions with Timberland.” She’s interesting because she has a pop sound, but is capable of good R&B also. Some songs I like are “Intruded" and “Do it Right,” which the latter has an old Jodeci beat very subtle beneath slightly faster paced lyrics. She definitely has some gems.

I hope you have found some new music that speaks to you! Let me know in the comments if you are feeling any of the songs linked.

Thanks for taking out the time to read my blog, you are greatly appreciated. Feel free to share as well. Be blessed!
